D (+)-Raffinose pentahydrate , CAS 17629-30-0 is the most famous trisaccharide in nature, which is composed of galactose, fructose and glucose. It is also known as raffinose, melitriose and melitrisaccharide. It is a functional oligosaccharide with strong effect of bifidobacteria proliferation.

Because of its unique physical and chemical and physiological effects, it can be widely used in food, health food, medicine, cosmetics, feed and other industries, as a prebiotic for the proliferation of bifidobacteria, as well as the main component of the protective delivery solution for human and animal organ transplantation, and as a synergist for prolonging the survival period of living bacteria at room temperature.

1. Cottonseed sugar has important pharmacological effect, anti blood disease effect and anti-cancer effect on germ cells. In the food industry, it can be added to various beverages, dairy products, nutritional oral liquid and various health food.

2. Because D (+)-Raffinose pentahydrate can be used as feed or oil, sugar beet is mainly used to produce sucrose, which is a common crop. α - galactokinase (α - gal) can hydrolyze raffinose into sucrose and galactose, which can be used to increase sugar production of sugar beet in industrial production.

3. There is no such enzyme in the digestive tract of human body, so it can't hydrolyze and utilize raffinose. D (+)-Raffinose pentahydrate  enters the colon of human body, and then it is fermented and utilized by gas producing bacteria to produce intestinal gas. This is also the reason that eating beans (rich in raffinose) can cause bowel Qi. Raffinose can be made by hydrolysis of cottonseed cake flour or beet molasses. D (+)-Raffinose pentahydrate, as an oligosaccharide, can be taken to regulate intestinal flora.
